Intercessory prayer

Intercession is our response to the love of God for all people, especially the saints.

Principle of intercession Luke 11:5-8
We come to God on behalf of someone else to meet their need that we cannot meet.
We ask for God's provision to meed the need, whether it be spiritual or physical.

We are all called to intercede.
1 Tim 2:1-8, 1 John 5:14-16, Gal 6:2, Eph 6:18

God is looking for people who will stand in the gap.
Ezek 22:23-31, Neh Ch 4, Matt 9:35-38

God promises to answer intercession
1 John 5:14-15, John 14:13-14, 15:7, 16:23-24

Intercession is to enter into partnership with the Father.
Zech 8:1-12 vs 6 in particular

Jesus is the head of the church. Col 2:10, Eph 1:20-23

We are the body of the church, that is the body of Christ. 1 Cor 12:27, Eph 1:23

God makes the decisions and gives the body the authority, the position, the responsibility to carry out what He says.

Jesus has all authority in heaven and earth. Matt 28:18

Jesus gives authority to His disciples to do business in His name.
Matt 10:1, Mark 6:7-13, Luke 9:1-2, 10:1-2, 10:17-22

Binding and loosening on earth and in heaven is to be done by disciples. Matt 18:18-20, 16:17-19

Authority in Christ's name has been given to all who believe. Mark 16:17-18

We are to pray for God's will to be done. Matt 6:9-10

The church is called into partnership with God. Eph 5:32

Practice of intercession

1. Discernment of need -
The body of Christ discerns when there is a need. We are joined together. 1 Cor 12:18-27
Holy Spirit helps us when we don't know how to pray and intercedes for us. Rom 8:26-27

2. Identification
Bear one another's burdens. Gal 6:2, Heb 13:3

3. Commitment
The Spirit is willing, but the flesh can be weak Matt 26:36-46
Stay with it. See it through. 1 Kings 18:41-46
    Daniel's example Dan 9:3-23, 10:1-3, 12-14, 18-21
