Areas of ministry in the body of Christ

government - spiritual authority for leadership to make the body of Christ a success

service - investing of talents and gifts to help someone else be a success

Priests and Levites Numbers 3

Priests - Aaron and sons (government)

Levites - help to priests (service)

Regardless of our area of ministry, everyone is to serve in the body of Christ. Mark 10:35-45

Jesus came to serve and give His life for us.

1 Cor 12:1-7 spirituals - Greek pneumatikos - things of the Spirit

Spirituals divided into categories of government and service, ascension and descension respectively.

Everyone has a place and giftings in the body of Christ. 1 Cor 12:18,11

There are a varieties of gifts, ministries, effects, manifestations.

Eph 4:8-11 Ascension gifts (doma) - gifts of Christ given when He ascended.

Acts 2:2-4, 1 Cor 12:7-11, Rom 12:6-8 Descension gifts (charisma) - gifts of the Spirit given when He descended.

1 Cor 12:28 ascension and descension gifts were set in at the inception of the church and still operating today.

Ascension gifts (doma) are gifts to the body of Christ to equip the saints for the work of service (Eph 4:8-13).
These are apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor-teacher.

Descension gifts (charisma) are grace gifts from God. Just as God ordained the number of days that we should live (Psalms 139:16),
He also gave us gifts and talents to be used to build His kingdom before we were born. Some gifts are imparted as we will see below.
These gifts are not earned by us for anything we have done. They are given to us by the grace of God.

Uses of charisma - grace gifts

Rom 1:11 Paul desiring to imparting spiritual gift (charisma) to people so that they can be established.

Rom 6:23 The free gift (charisma) of God is eternal life.

Rom 11:29 The gifts (charisma) and callings of God are irrevocable. We must choose to use them.

Rom 12:6 Different gifts (charisma) given to members of the body of Christ.

1 Cor 7:7 It is a special gift (charisma) to remain single and not get married.

1 Pet 4:10-11 Each one of us has received special gift (charisma) for serving in the body of Christ.

Some gifts come by impartation - Paul's example with Timothy.

1 Tim 4:14 We are not to neglect the spiritual gift (charisma) within us, which can be bestowed upon us through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.

2 Tim 1:6 Kindle afresh the gift (charisma) of God which came through the laying on of hands.

1 Pet 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR GOD'S OWN POSSESSION, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Regardless of the gifts that we have, they belong to God and are to be used for His glory and to build His kingdom.
